It's about time! White house officials are falsely accused of outing a so-called covert CIA agent and the media has a three-year feeding frenzy. Meanwhile, a Clinton-era cabinet official, the national security advisor no less, gets caught with stolen classified documents, from the National Archive, stuffed in his pants and there's barely a blip on the radar. Sure the media ran a few stories about it. But none of them were as vigorous as the Plame-gate story.
Finally, someone in the republican party is calling for a more in-depth probe into the Berger scandal. Their timing is impeccable.
From Brietbart.Com:
A group of House Republicans called Wednesday for a congressional investigation into the improper handling of classified documents by President Clinton's national security adviser, Sandy Berger.
Berger admitted last year that he deliberately took classified documents out of the National Archives in 2003 and destroyed some of them at his office. He pleaded guilty in federal court to one charge of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material and was fined $50,000.
Ten lawmakers led by House Armed Services Chairman Duncan Hunter, R- Calif., and Judiciary Chairman James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., released a letter calling for the House Government Reform Committee to investigate.
They asked the committee to determine whether any documents were missing from Clinton administration terrorism records, to review security measures for classified documents and to seek testimony from Berger.
Hunter's spokesman, Joe Kasper, said the Justice Department had asked Congress to hold off on any oversight until the legal case concluded.
"It's important that the House conduct its own review to ensure there is a clear understanding of the facts, and sensitive and highly classified security information is not potentially compromised in the future," Kasper said.

Aircraft Crashes into NY Building

AP via Brietbart.Com:
A small plane crashed into an Upper East Side high-rise Wednesday, shooting flames out the windows, raining debris on the sidewalks below and rattling New Yorkers' nerves exactly one month after the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack. Police confirmed 2 people are dead.
Christine Monaco, a New York spokeswoman for FBI, said there was no indication of terrorism, but that officials "have been sent to the scene as a routine." FAA spokesman Jim Peters said all three New York City-area airports were operating normally.
"The initial indication is that there is a terrible accident," said Department of Homeland Security spokesman Russ Knocke.
The aircraft struck the 20th floor of a building on East 72nd Street, said Fire Department spokeswoman Emily Rahimi. Witnesses said the crash caused a loud noise, and flames were seen shooting out of the windows.
"It's a mob scene with police and helicopters circling," said Sandy Teller, watching from his apartment a block away. "There's a dozen ambulances and lots of firefighters waiting on 72nd, on the corner. There's lots of stretchers ready, gurneys. And lots of emergency people waiting."
The crash struck fear in a city devastated by the attacks of Sept. 11 five years ago. Witnesses said sirens echoed across the east side of Manhattan as emergency workers rushed to the scene. The crash triggered a loud bang. Broken glass and debris was strewn around the neighborhood.
"There's a sense of helplessness," Teller said. "Cots and gurneys, waiting. It's a mess."
The Federal Aviation Administration said it was too early to determine what type of aircraft was involved, or what might have caused the crash in the middle of a hazy October afternoon.

This is my "home town" so I'll be watching this story for new developments.

*** Update:
Various sources indicate the the plane was registered to Cory Lidle, a pitcher with the New York Yankees baseball team. Two bodies have been recovered at the scene. Unconfirmed reports indicate that Lidle may have been piloting the plane. His passport was found among the plane's wreckage.

Mary from the Freedom Eden blog comments on the democrats' reaction to the recent North Korean nuclear bomb test. I agree wholeheartedly with her commentary. I would also add the following:
It is because of liberal appeasement that North Korea has nukes in the first place. I'm not the only blogger who holds that opinion; see my previous post.
The only unifying strategy the democrats have is to defeat George Bush and turn the remainder of his term into a lame duck Presidency. Not defeating international terrorism, not resolving the diplomatic and nuclear threats from Iran and North Korea, and certainly not stabilizing Iraq. Stymieing the President will only serve to magnify each problem with potentially deadly consequences for the American people.
The DRUDGE REPORT has obtained an exclusive copy of a "scary" campaign advertisement created by Hollywood producer and director David Zucker that was intended to be used by GOP organizations in the closing weeks of the 2006 campaign.
Finally, a mainstream filmmaker with some sense:
As much as the democrat party assails George Bush about staying on the offense against islamo-fascism, let's not forget the colossal mistakes made by Clinton and his democrat operatives during his eight years in office. The Ad featured above might be a satirical portrait of the previous administration, but it certainly makes a valid point.
This was just too inept to forgo commentary…
In, Democratic Party Fauxtoshops Veteran, LGF chronicles how the democratic party claims a new poll shows our brave American soldiers aren't getting the resources they need to fight the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. There's just one glitch, they're featuring a photo of a Canadian soldier instead of an American.
So the party that criticizes the GOP for not paying enough attention to our service men and women doesn't even have the wherewithal to recognize a member of their own military?
Let's not forget, over the past 20 years it has been democrats and liberals who've voted to cut defense spending, and reduce the size of the military.
Let's also not forget that recently certain high-ranking members of the democratic party have publicly declared their intention to cut the funding for the Iraq war if they take control of the house and senate.
It's been another mudslinging week in politics as we get closer to the election. Both the democrats and Republicans are fighting for votes in earnest. What worries me most however, is the democrats seem to be more concerned about defeating President Bush, rather than presenting a REAL plan to defend the country and defeat islamic fascism. (Redeploying troops to Okinawa, Japan doesn't count.)
